Rs2.4cr cash seized from DMK functionary’s car near Perambalur

Perambalur: Election monitoring teams seized 2.4 crore in cash that was transported without proper documents in a car belonging to a DMK functionary near Perambalur on Tuesday.An election flying squad was checking vehicles passing through Sengunam in Perambalur district. Upon noticing a suspicious car, they stopped it and conducted a search. They discovered 2.4 crore in cash packed inside five cardboard boxes in the boot of the car.Officials identified the driver as Rajesh Kannan and the owner of the car as Jayaraman, deputy organiser of DMK farmers' wing in Perambalur district.Perambalur election officials have initiated steps to hand over the seized amount to the income tax department.With polling scheduled for Thursday, the seizure of such a huge amount has created a stir in Perambalur. Surveillance and monitoring activities have been further intensified across the entire district.
