Rs 5.5 lakh seized from Sasikala’s party candidate

Trichy: Election flying squad officials seized unaccounted cash of Rs 5.5 lakh from a candidate belonging to V K Sasikala's All India Puratchi Thalaivar Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AIPTMMK) near Mayiladuthurai on Monday when the candidate was on her way to file her nomination.A Malathi, 46, from Perattakudi in Mayiladuthurai district, is contesting in the Sirkazhi assembly constituency in the upcoming assembly election. While she was travelling from her residence towards Sirkazhi, an election flying squad stopped and checked her car at Sethirabalapuram and found Rs 5.5 lakh cash. As she was unable to produce supporting documents, the squad seized the amount. After the seizure, she filed her nomination papers before the returning officer.The squad handed over the seized cash to officials at the Mayiladuthurai taluk office.
