The Buffalo Bills did address a glaring need this offseason, but the work may not be finished. After acquiring wide receiver DJ Moore from the Chicago Bears for a 2026 second-round pick, Buffalo gave
Josh Allen a proven target who can stretch the field and win contested catches. It was a decisive move, one that signals urgency inside the organization. Still, with expectations growing louder and the AFC as competitive as ever, the question now is simple. Is one move enough for a team that believes its Super Bowl window is wide open?
Bills may not be done after DJ Moore move
Moore’s arrival lifts the floor of Buffalo’s offense, but there are lingering concerns about depth on the outside. The current group still leans heavily on projection rather than certainty, especially behind Moore. That’s where the idea of another major swing begins to make sense.
There is growing chatter around the possibility of DK Metcalf becoming available. It remains speculative, but league observers are paying attention. Mike Moraitis of The Sporting News pointed to Buffalo’s need for another reliable option, writing, “But the Bills are lacking another outside receiver because they simply cannot depend on Keon Coleman or Joshua Palmer. With Super Bowl aspirations, Buffalo should be going all-in on putting as many weapons as possible around Josh Allen, as the team goes as he goes.”
That sentiment reflects how Buffalo is viewed right now. This is a team built around its quarterback, and when Allen is at his best, everything else tends to follow. But the margin for error shrinks in January. One more elite playmaker could change the math.
The speculation around Metcalf stems in part from contract dynamics and recent production. Moe Moton of Bleacher Report noted, “Meanwhile, Metcalf doesn’t have any guaranteed money left on his deal. As a two-time Pro Bowler, he’s unlikely to play on a contract without financial security. That said, the 28-year-old is coming off his least productive pro campaign.”
Metcalf is currently in the second year of a four-year, $132 million contract.
It’s a complicated situation. Pittsburgh just brought him in last year, which makes a quick turnaround trade feel unlikely. Yet the Steelers have never been afraid to reset at wide receiver. They draft well at the position and have the flexibility to pivot if needed.
For Buffalo, the appeal is obvious. Metcalf brings size, speed, and a physical edge that complements Moore rather than overlaps with him. His track record speaks for itself, even in a down season.
A deal, if it happens, would likely come later, perhaps after the draft when rosters take clearer shape. It would also require another meaningful pick. But for a team chasing something bigger, hesitation may not be an option.
Buffalo has already made one strong statement this offseason. Whether they choose to double down could define how far this team goes when it matters most.
