Reimagining Teppakulam contest for architects kicks off in Trichy
Trichy: Trichy corporation and city-based architects have launched ‘Reimagining Teppakulam', a national-level design competition to select ideas from architects and urban planners to develop a sustainable public space in Trichy. Detailed project reports (DPRs) will be submitted to Trichy corporation to implement the best viable idea.Organised by Archtrust, Trichy, and Indian Institute of Architects, Trichy centre, the competition will focus on suggesting a comprehensive land-use design for redeveloping around 30 acres of commercialised area around Teppakulam. With online registrations already open at www.reimaginingteppakulam.in, architects are asked to register before May 1. Registrations are accepted under professionals and students' categories. Registered contestants will get design kits. Organisers said redeveloping the tank as a climate infrastructure, cultural landscape, and to bridge the gap between heritage value and everyday use is the main theme of the competition. "Participants must submit their ideas before May 31. A jury of experts will scrutinise and select the best models by June 14. An exhibition displaying best ideas is also planned," S Vijayakumar, chairman, Archtrust, Trichy, told TOI. Top models will move to the DPR stage, and with the help of Trichy corporation, the viable design will be implemented to transform the tank and Main Guard Gate area, which were recently retrieved from encroachments.
