Rain comes as relief for Trichy residents

Trichy: Meanwhile, residents of Trichy received respite from the scorching summer heat on Saturday evening as moderate showers lashed several parts of the district.The rain, which began around 4.30pm, was accompanied by gusty winds and continued for two hours. Though the rainfall subsided by evening, the cool breeze and pleasant conditions persisted into the night.The showers come after days of intense heat, with the mercury touching 40.5°C earlier this week. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), light rain accompanied by generally cloudy skies is expected on Sunday. However, daytime temperatures are likely to remain high, with the maximum hovering around 40°C on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. IMD has forecast a possibility of heavy rainfall on Monday. Tuesday is expected to remain dry with temperatures projected to fall to 39°C on Wednesday and Thursday.
