University sources said the committee will scrutinise the applications on Feb 9. The panel comprises A Senthil Rajan, registrar of Alagappa University; two former registrars of BDU, C Thiruchelvam and G Gopinath; S Amutha, the governor's nominee in the syndicate; and K Suriyan, chair of the school of social sciences at BDU. After the syndicate approved the move on Sept 22, advertisements were issued on Dec 12, and applications were received until Jan 12. Sources told TOI that 18 applications were received for the post of registrar, 16 for CoE, and 13 for director of CDE.After scrutiny, an interview committee will have to be constituted in accordance with the statutes for the candidates to be recommended by the panel for syndicate approval. In the past, although BDU had completed interview procedures, appointments were not finalised due to opposition from syndicate members. The last such instance was on Jan 31, when a sealed cover was not opened after syndicate members alleged "favouritism", leading to the item being deferred.
