Postal cover issued on Kodiyakkarai blackbucks

Trichy: India Post issued a special postal cover featuring the blackbuck of Kodiyakkarai (Point Calimere) Wildlife and Birds Sanctuary on World Wetlands Day celebrated on Monday. Kodiyakkarai, a key wintering site for migratory birds, hosts more than 250 bird species, including waterbirds and land varieties. The postal department previously issued a set of six special covers highlighting migratory birds in the sanctuary.
The blackbuck population in Kodiyakkarai is one of only three distinct habitats in Tamil Nadu, the others being Guindy National Park in Chennai and areas near Sathyamangalam in Erode district. The new cover aims to highlight the animal's traditional, ecological, and conservation value. Mariamma Thomas, chief postmaster general, Tamil Nadu circle, released the cover at the sanctuary. The cover design includes a colour image of the blackbuck, a special cancellation stamp, and the Tamil inscription of blackbuck, enhancing its appeal.T Nirmala Devi, postmaster general, central region, M Ganesh, assistant director (business development), central region and S Ganeshkumar, divisional postmaster, Pattukkottai division, were present during the release. Following the event, an advisory meeting was held for post office staff in the Kodiyakkarai region.
