Police crack down on bootleggers

Trichy: With the polling just a day away for the assembly elections, attempts to sell illegal liquor have surged across the central districts. Police have seized thousands of liquor bottles and arrested many bootleggers.At Mallipattinam in Thanjavur district, Sethubavachathiram police seized 836 bottles of liquor and arrested two people. Thiruchitrambalam and Nadukaveri police arrested two others while attempting to smuggle 202 bottles and 264 bottles of liquor respectively in the districtIn Ariyalur district, police on Monday arrested 44 people for possessing and attempting to sell illegal liquor and seized 1,763 liquor bottles. A total of 36 cases has been registered.
