MSMEs welcome TN TReDS push, flag lack of Trichy-specific projects

Trichy: MSME bodies in the city welcomed the interim budget's focus on prompt payments through the TN TReDS (Tamil Nadu Trade Receivables Discounting System) platform, but expressed disappointment over the absence of major Trichy-specific investments.The budget highlighted that 1,461 enterprises had benefited from transactions worth Rs 5,171 crore facilitated through TN TReDS, aimed at easing liquidity by addressing delayed payments to MSMEs.
Ramprakash G B of the TIDISIMMA said the 2026-27 interim budget's allocation for a new TIDEL Park and the Kamarajar Library in Trichy would strengthen infrastructure and help retain local talent. However, he noted key gaps. "Unlike Coimbatore and Madurai, Trichy is not part of the metro rail roadmap. The budget also missed the opportunity to build on Trichy's strengths in defence and heavy engineering. We expected a dedicated defence industrial park or a heavy engineering cluster," he said. The Export Import Federation Trichy (EIFT) also voiced concern over the lack of announcements to strengthen trade infrastructure in the central region. EIFT president N Kanagasabapathy said the budget did not address long-pending demands such as support for a Free Trade Warehousing Zone (FTWZ) and air cargo infrastructure, despite Trichy having an international airport. MSME representatives further pointed out that, despite the region's network of engineering colleges and start-up ecosystem, there were no announcements on establishing electronics or AI clusters to drive future industrial growth.
