Ministers rush to inaugurate projects in Trichy ahead of poll code
Trichy: Hours before the Election Commission of India announced the schedule for the state assembly elections, ministers and government officials on Sunday inaugurated and launched several projects in Manachanallur, Musiri and Thiruverumbur constituencies in Trichy district.Anticipating the enforcement of the election model code of conduct (MCC), a series of infrastructure works were either commissioned or had their foundation stones laid across the region. Municipal administration minister K N Nehru inaugurated 26 completed projects in Musiri constituency, including overhead water tanks, new public distribution system (PDS) outlets, a union office, rural road works and additional classrooms in government schools, together costing ₹19.5 crore. Earlier, he laid the foundation stone for a commercial complex at S Kannanur town panchayat in Samayapuram, estimated at ₹2.2 crore. The complex, proposed under the Kalaignar Urban Development Scheme, will house 18 shops and cater to devotees visiting the Samayapuram Mariamman temple. Meanwhile, school education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi inaugurated a PDS outlet at Melakalkandarkottai in Trichy city. The facility was built at a cost of ₹17 lakh using the constituency development fund of Trichy MP Durai Vaiko. Over the past week, several projects across the district were inaugurated ahead of the MCC, including a sports hub developed by the Trichy Corporation at Thennur and a number of sanitary complexes.
