Minister consoles family of student who died in accident

Trichy: School education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi visited the family of a college student who died after an accident involving TVK leader Vijay's vehicle in Trichy and consoled them on Wednesday.The student, P Vignesh, 19, and his friend Arun had followed Vijay's vehicle on a motorcycle near Sengipatti in Thanjavur district as Vijay was heading to a party meeting on March 4. They collided with a police vehicle and sustained injuries. Vignesh died in a private hospital in Trichy on March 23 after receiving treatment for 19 days.Vignesh was a third-year B.Com student at an autonomous college in Trichy. On Wednesday night, Poyyamozhi, who is also MLA for Thiruverumbur, met his family at their home.Notably, Poyyamozhi had met the family earlier on March 10 while Vignesh undergoing treatment in Thanjavur and had reportedly assured them of support for the medical expenses. Criticism grew against TVK after the meeting, that senior party leaders had not visited the family in a similar manner. Following this, TVK's local unit in Thanjavur clarified that they were supporting Vignesh's medical expenses. Vignesh's father, Pandiyan, a milk vendor, had expressed displeasure, stating that Vignesh had gone to see Vijay without informing the family and against his advice.
