Man, 50, tries to fix power disruption, electrocuted

Trichy: A 50-year-old mason was electrocuted near Manapparai in Trichy district on Saturday when he climbed onto a transformer to fix a power disruption. Police identified the deceased as N Innasi, a resident of Periyapatti village. Police said Innasi was trying to restore power to his house on his own. Around 10am, he climbed onto a transformer located about 50 metres from his house at N Poolampatty to replace a fuse. However, he was electrocuted in the process and died on the spot.Police said Innasi had undertaken the repair work without authorization. He is survived by his wife, son and daughter, who are living separately. Manapparai police have registered a case, and further investigation is under way.
