Man, 40, held for trying to sexually harass woman in Karur
Karur: A 40-year-old man was arrested on Sunday on charges of attempting to sexually harass a young woman at her residence. The accused, identified as M Prakash, a resident of Malayappa Nagar, allegedly barged into the woman's house when she was alone and attempted to sexually harass her. The woman resisted, pushed him away, and raised an alarm, following which neighbours rushed to the spot and apprehended him.On receiving information, Kulithalai police reached the scene, took Prakash into custody and registered a case based on the woman's complaint. He was booked under sections 74 and 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and later remanded. Further investigation is under way.Meanwhile, former BJP state president claimed that the accused was a functionary of the VCK. "Prakash—district deputy secretary of the VCK—sexually harassed a woman who was drying clothes outside her home while he was under the influence of alcohol. The DMK and its alliance partners have effectively become a haven for sexual offenders. Rather than focusing on punishing criminals, the DMK govt appears more intent on shielding them. Consequently, anti-social elements have lost all fear of the law and the police, emboldened to the point of intruding into private homes to commit sexual assaults," Annamalai wrote on X.
