Koraiyar bridge to be widened
Trichy: A plan has been mooted to widen the two-lane bridge across the Koraiyar river in Trichy into a four-lane bridge. "The road leading to the bridge across the Koraiyar river is being widened into four-lane road. So, a tender will be floated for widening the bridge too. Land parcels will be acquired near the Green park on E Pudur-Crawford Road to develop the four-lane bridge," an official source said. The 17.2-crore project has been taken up to strengthen and widen the 1.2-km long highway (SH 132) connecting Crawford and E Pudur areas and the upcoming integrated bus terminus (IBT) at Panjapur on Trichy-Madurai NH.The decision was made on Friday during the inspection of road projects by R Selvaraj, a secretary to the state highways and minor ports department. He also inspected a new bridge being built across the Uppar river near Lalgudi taken up at at 3 crore.
