Life convict, 46, dies at MGMGH after illness
Trichy: A 46-year-old life convict lodged in Central Prison, Trichy, died at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) after failing to respond to treatment.The deceased, V Senthil of Veeravanchi Nagar in Soorakudi, Ariyalur district, had been serving a life sentence in connection with a 2017 case registered at the All-Women Police Station, Jayamkondam, under Sections 376(ii)(i) and 506(ii) of the IPC. He had been in prison since Sept 22, 2022. According to police, Senthil complained of severe abdominal pain and fatigue on April 7 and was admitted to the intensive care unit at MGMGH. However, his condition did not improve, and he died on April 24 around 8.45 pm. Based on a complaint from a prison official, the Government Hospital police registered a case under Section 196 of the BNSS. The body has been kept at the hospital mortuary for postmortem. Further investigation is underway.
