Trichy: Tension prevailed outside the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Govt Hospital (MGMGH) on Wednesday after relatives of a murdered DMK town panchayat councillor held a road blockade, refusing to receive his body until the accused are arrested.It may be recalled that A Ranjith Kumar, 38, from Bharathipuram in Koothappar, Thiruverumbur block, Trichy district was murdered by unidentified assailants near Navalpattu on Monday night. Following the postmortem at MGMGH, authorities moved to hand over the body to the family on Wednesday evening. However, relatives and supporters gathered at the hospital premises and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. As police attempted to pacify them through talks, the protesters intensified their agitation and blocked the road at the hospital's main entrance, disrupting traffic for some time. Police held negotiations with the family, assuring swift action in the case. After prolonged discussions, the protesters called off the blockade.
