Kargil martyr’s family receives Prime Minister’s Memorial Gift
TRICHY: As part of the ‘75 years of Indian Independence’ celebrations being held across the country, family members of Kargil war martyr Major M Saravanan received the Prime Minister’s Memorial Gift on Friday.
According to M Senthil Kumar, managing trustee of Major Saravanan Memorial Trust, the Prime Minister’s Memorial Gift was given to the family of Major Saravanan to recall his service in the Indian Army during the onset of the Kargil war.

Major Saravanan Mariyappan graduated from Officers Training Academy in Chennai in 1995 and was commissioned into Bihar Regiment.
Addressed as Hero of Batalik, he was killed in action while eliminating an enemy position on May 29, 1999, the trust recalled.
Col Ramneik Goswami, commanding officer, 2(TN) Battalion, NCC, handed over the memorial gift to Dr Chithra Senthil Kumar, sister of the late major at their residence in New Raja Colony in Trichy.
