Gang abducts, robs lorry driver of Rs 50k

Trichy: A 30-year-old lorry driver lost Rs50,000 to a gang of four who befriended him through an online dating app, abducted and robbed him near the integrated bus terminus at Panjapur in the early hours of Saturday. Police said S Sathishraja, a native of Tenkasi residing in Trichy city, is a lorry driver, who has been using a mobile dating app for the past few months. On Friday night, he unloaded cargo at a nursery unit and consumed liquor. He invited a man whom he earlier acquainted himself with through the app to the spot. However, the man arrived with three others in a car, threatened Sathishraja and robbed him of Rs 10,000 in cash. They then abducted him and forced him to withdraw Rs30,000 using his debit card. Sathishraja claimed the gang used Rs10,000 more to refuel their car at a nearby petrol bunk, abandoned him and fled. Based on his complaint, E Pudur police registered a case and are investigating.
