Trichy: Senior CPI leader R Mutharasan on Thursday said that
AIADMK general secretary
Edappadi K Palaniswami has understood that he cannot become
Tamil Nadu chief minister again. Campaigning for Trichy West DMK candidate and minister K N Nehru in Woraiyur, Mutharasan said that Palaniswami has sided with BJP for his personal gain.
"EPS has no intent of becoming a CM. He is locked in the BJP alliance like a fly trapped in a spider web. While all parties in the DMK alliance oppose the delimitation bill to protect the rights of Tamil Nadu, Edappadi is refusing to accept the ill effects of the bill moved in a hasty manner amid assembly elections in several states," the former state secretary of CPI said.
Stating that the parties in the DMK alliance accept and welcome the women's reservation bill ensuring fair representation for women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies, Mutharasan questioned the need to convene Parliament for discussing the delimitation bill while Tamil Nadu and West Bengal are still in election mode.
"We are wearing black shirts today and hoisted black flags, and some have burnt copies of the bill. All these are to protect the state's rights and interests," Mutharasan said. Claiming that DMK has fulfilled most promises in the last five years, the CPI leader said that the DMK alliance will return to power and nobody can stop it.
