Trichy: Trichy MP Durai Vaiko on Wednesday said that Fort station railway RoB (Maris RoB) will be completed by Sept 2026.
The MP, who inspected the progress made by five key infrastructure projects including bridges and a link road for decongesting Trichy city on Wednesday, said that shortage of LPG affecting the fabrication work of steel RoBs and mass exodus of guest workers from Assam and West Bengal to participate in their state assembly elections delayed the work.
"Southern Railway and state highways department have been urged to complete the ongoing works as per the new schedule. People suffer a lot due to traffic diversions, further delay will not be entertained," the MP said.
He said that Trichy junction RoB (stage II), including the bow string girder bridge near Trichy railway junction, will be completed by Dec 2026. The MP said that officials informed him about mobilizing a temporary girder from Katpadi to position the new girder above the tracks. For Trichy town station ROB coming up across the tracks near Devathanam, Durai said that administrative delays are cleared now, and the project is slated to be completed by Aug 2027.
He inspected works for the new four lane high-level bridge being constructed across the Koraiyar river connecting the Panjapur integrated bus terminus (KKBT) with E Pudur, which will be completed by Jan 2027.
The MP also reviewed the link road on the banks of Koraiyar river proposed by Trichy corporation. Work for two phases of the link road is progressing while the administrative sanction is expected for the third phase.
"Land acquisition for Trichy airport's runway is completed and the DPR was already sent to the AAI. The project outlay is estimated at Rs350 crore. For safety reasons, it was insisted to change the soil condition near the runway. Once the runway is expanded, the modification work will be taken up on the old runway area," the MP said.
