Trichy: CPI state deputy secretary C Mahendran said free and fair assembly election would be a distant dream in the state if pro-AIADMK government officials are entrusted with the poll related work. The Election Commission should rope in 200 youth in every constituency to do the election work without bias, Mahendran said while addressing party workers in the city on Friday.
Speaking to reporters, Mahendran said the doors and windows of DMDK-PWF are still open for G K Vasan's TMC.
On Vaiko's derogatory remarks against DMK leader M Karunanidhi, Mahendran said the MDMK chief has apologized for his remarks. But the issue is being used as a tool for diverting attention of the people, he added.
He said the CPI has identified constituencies favourable to it and the list of candidates would be released in a day or two.
Ruling out a popular perception that the AIADMK has an edge in the multi-cornered contest, Mahendran said people are upset over the wide-spread corruption in the government. CPI will campaign against the AIADMK to sow the seeds of change in the state, he added.
Mahendran contested against chief minister J Jayalalithaa in the R K Nagar by-election. He alleged that the government officials ensured the victory of Jayalalithaa by turning a blind eye on fake votes.
Officials supported Jayalalithaa by refusing to take up our complaints and saying that CCTV cameras were defunct, he added. "Election Commission's flying squad has not caught a single politician for carrying unaccounted cash during their vehicle checks. But only traders get caught," he wondered.
Mahendran was in the city to train party cadres on handling social media and propagate party's ideology and participate in debates and discussions online.
