‘Don’t force teachers to come to college’

Trichy: Regional joint director of collegiate education (RJDCE), Trichy, has instructed all the private colleges of education and arts and science colleges to not force teachers to come to college. The directive has come in the wake of complaints from a few colleges where teachers were asked to come to college if they want a full salary.

A Mekala, RJDCE, Trichy, said that she has been receiving complaints on erring colleges and has asked them to follow the directions issued by the state government. “There is no point in risking the lives of teachers when the Covid-19 spread is high,” said Mekala adding that she will take necessary steps against erring colleges after conducting an enquiry. The Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University asked colleges in March to switch over to online classes. Further, the state government also asked teachers in schools and colleges to work from home by the end of last month.

However, a teacher from Jenney’s College of Education in Trichy said that relatives of some of the staff were tested positive for Covid-19, but they are coming to the college in the fear of losing salary. When asked, S Rama Prabha, principal of Jenney’s College of Education, Trichy, refused to comment on it. tnn
