Container falls over moving car, occupants survive

Trichy: An empty shipping container detached from a moving truck and crashed onto a car near the Aristo Flyover in Trichy on Tuesday. While the car's occupants survived, the wreckage caused traffic congestion for approximately one hour.The accident took place on the flyover section between Mannarpuram and the Trichy Central bus stand around 2pm.According to sources, a couple from Jaya Nagar near Karumandapam was travelling in their car when a container truck coming from Pirattiyur approached from the opposite direction. As the truck negotiated a turn, the container tilted sharply to its right and fell directly onto the car.The collision crushed the right side of the car from above with severe force. Sensing danger, the couple quickly escaped through the opposite side and emerged unharmed.Traffic South police deployed a crane to lift and remove both the container and the damaged car, and restored normal traffic movement.Police sources revealed that the container was empty and had not been properly secured to the truck's trailer bed. They noted that the outcome could have been far more serious with potential for heavy damage and injuries if the container had been loaded. An investigation is currently underway.
