Central TN candidates give final push as campaigning ends

Trichy: In a final push to boost their chances, major candidates across the central region wound up their hectic election campaigns on Tuesday ahead of polling on April 23.In Trichy, star campaigners from various parties held multiple rallies. DMK state propaganda secretary Dindigul Leoni campaigned for Thiruverumbur MLA Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi. Later in the day, Rajya Sabha MP Tiruchi Siva also canvassed support for Mahesh.For the AIADMK, Kaliyammal campaigned for the party's Trichy East candidate, while director Udhayakumar and actor Saravanan canvassed for Srirangam candidate Manoharan. TVK joint propaganda secretary Loyola Mani campaigned for the party's Srirangam candidate Ramesh. As many as 11 election processions were taken out by candidates, including Trichy West candidate K N Nehru, AIADMK's P Kumar, and nominees from AMMK and TVK. In addition, party cadres carried out door-to-door canvassing, while independent candidates conducted vehicle campaigns.In Karur, former minister M R Vijayabhaskar of the AIADMK, DMK candidate M Thiagarajan accompanied by Senthil Balaji's brother Ashok Kumar, and TVK's VP Mathiazhagan, held campaigns. "All four MLAs representing Karur will be elected from the DMK party. Over the next five years, they will undertake development projects worth hundreds of crore within the Karur district," said Kumar. "During the AIADMK's tenure, I implemented various developmental schemes for the growth of the Karur district. If I am given the opportunity to serve as an MLA for the next five years, I will assume office as a minister in EPS cabinet," Vijayabhaskar said. Similarly in Pudukottai, DMK candidates including Siva V Meyyanathan in Alangudi, Regupathy in Thirumayam and BJP candidate N Ramachandran all carried out campaigns. In Thanjavur and other regions also candidates canvassed for votes.
