TRICHY:

Trichy Corporation

officials on Thursday gifted a

bicycle

to a five-year-old

boy

who donated his piggy bank savings to help cyclone Gaja-affected people in the delta districts of Tamil Nadu.

The Trichy Corporation has been collecting relief materials for the affected people in Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur and Pudukkottai districts for the last one week. The boy, S Pranav of Shanmuga Nagar, handed over Rs 750 worth relief materials to the Shanmuga Nagar Residents Welfare Association (RWA).

“For the past two years, he has been saving the money we give him. On seeing the visuals in television channels displaying the damage caused by cyclone Gaja, he told us that he wanted to spend the savings to purchase essential commodities for the affected people,” Pranav’s father R Senthil Kumar said.

Recognising the gesture of the UKG student, the RWA in Shanmuga Nagar informed Trichy Corporation officials about it. The officials collected money from among themselves and gifted the boy a bicycle worth Rs 3,600.
