Boy, aunt held for riding bike sans licence
Trichy: City police arrested a minor boy and seized a sports bike from him near Srirangam on Tuesday night for riding without a licence. They also arrested his aunt, in whose name the vehicle was registered.Sources said the boy, hailing from Thiruvanaikovil, ran into Srirangam police who were checking vehicles passing near Nelson Road Junction around 9.30 pm. The youth was riding the bike in a rash manner, and during interrogation police found that he was underage and did not possess a driving licence. They detained him and seized the bike, valued at approximately Rs2 lakh. On Wednesday, police arrested his aunt, Vinitha, as the bike was registered in her name.Srirangam police registered a case under Section 281 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rash driving. They also invoked Section 199A of Motor Vehicles Act, which holds parents, guardians, or vehicle owners criminally responsible for traffic offences committed by juveniles. Both the juvenile and his aunt were released on bail, and investigation is progressing.
