Pudukottai: A 42-year-old woman was murdered late on Saturday night by unidentified men near Neduvasal in Pudukottai district. Police have detained a BJP functionary of Chengalpattu district and three others for questioning in this connection.
The deceased was identified as Kaliammal, wife of Suresh. Police said the accused killed Kaliammal after she resisted an attempt to abduct her daughter. Police suspect that S Vivian, 33, the BJP functionary from Chengalpattu, and the brother of Suresh's second wife, were involved in the abduction attempt along with a few others.
According to police, the abduction was attempted after Kaliammal rejected a marriage proposal for her daughter. When she resisted, she was attacked and killed. During inquiry, Vivian claimed that he currently holds the post of BJP district president for the unorganised industry wing (Amaippusara Thozhil Pirivu), police said in a release. Vadakadu police have detained Vivian and three of his associates and are conducting inquiries.
