Alumni donate microscope to NIT, ₹25L fund at jubilee meet
Trichy: The 1968-73 batch of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Trichy formerly Regional Engineering College (REC), which met at the campus after 50 years for their golden jubilee celebration, donated ₹2 lakh worth ‘Nulinescope’, a high-power microscope to the institute.During the alumni meet, the batch donated ₹25 lakh to the institute’s alumni association which will be utilized as academic scholarships for economically backward students. A portion of the donation will also be utilized to create a Miyawaki forest for 0.5 acre on the campus. The batchmates installed a 32.4 kW solar power plant at a cost of 30 lakh in the Lapis hostel and planted 173 tree saplings, for a carbon-free institute. “Out of the 180 students in our batch, 63 attended the meeting. Most of us brought our family members from various parts of world. It was an emotional experience to visit our hostels and academic blocks after 50 years,” G Srinivasan, coordinator of the meeting said. The former students said that they had assured their support to the NIT Trichy management to take up water conservation projects on the campus.
