Karur: Tension flared on Monday after a scuffle broke out between supporters of the AIADMK and the DMK over the distribution of pamphlets, with both sides trading allegations of misconduct.
According to sources, the clash occurred when AIADMK cadres, led by former minister and party MLA candidate M R Vijayabhaskar, were distributing pamphlets in Thanthonimalai highlighting the ongoing controversy over encroachments on temple land.

However, DMK cadres have claimed that the pamphlets violate the model code of conduct.
The situation escalated on Monday when the AIADMK team reached Thanthonimalai, leading to a confrontation with DMK workers. Police and election officials rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. AIADMK functionaries alleged that their women cadres were manhandled during the incident and held a brief road blockade. Officials later pacified the protesters and advised them to file a formal complaint. Subsequently, AIADMK representatives lodged a complaint at the superintendent of police's office.
