Trichy: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has installed a display gallery at Trichy airport showcasing prohibited items to educate passengers and prevent them from carrying such objects in hand baggage.
With the airport handling a higher volume of international passengers—many of them NRIs travelling to Gulf and Southeast Asian countries—officials said security screening has become increasingly challenging, as flyers often carry restricted items unknowingly. This not only leads to confiscation but also delays the screening process.
To address the issue, AAI has set up a transparent gallery near the departure area. It features sample items such as knives, lighters, perfumes, masala powders, adhesive tapes, hardware tools and other inflammable materials that are not permitted in cabin baggage.
Passengers can view the display and read instructions in Tamil and English before reaching the security check, helping them avoid carrying prohibited items.
