587 special buses from Trichy for post-election weekend rush

Trichy: The TNSTC's Trichy region has deployed 587 special buses to cater to passengers returning to Chennai and other cities after the long weekend following the Assembly election.On Sunday alone, 259 special buses were operated from Trichy to Chennai, in addition to 151 regular services. "The demand is lower than expected, and footfall is moderate. However, senior officials have been deployed to monitor the situation and arrange additional buses if needed," said K Dhasarathan, managing director, TNSTC Kumbakonam. Transport department principal secretary Shunchonngam Jatak Chiru, along with the TNSTC MD, inspected passenger movement and bus availability at the Panjapur Kalaignar Karunanidhi Bus Terminus (KKBT) early on Sunday. Apart from the existing 421 regular services, special buses are being operated from Trichy to key destinations including Chennai, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Villupuram and Salem.
