TRICHY: Forest officials arrested 21 people on charges of

poaching

a

wild boar

in a reserve forest near MR Palayam in

Trichy

district of Tamil Nadu. The accused have been booked under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

The arrested included Raman, Murugan, Karuppaiah, Sundarrajan and Kodi Prasath. All of them hailed from Manamettuppatti in

Pudukkottai

district.

They trespassed into the reserve forest area at Nedungur in M R Palayam and hunted a wild boar on Sunday evening.

Acting on a tip-off, forest department officials rushed to the spot and intercepted the minivan which was returning from the forest carrying the carcase of a wild boar. The men in the minivan were arrested and produced before a court in Lalgudi on Monday. They were remanded in judicial custody.
