Trichy: A 17-year-old boy lost his life and 59 others were injured during a jallikattu event held in Trichy city on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as E Pradeep, a resident of Rachandar Thirumalai near Azhagapuri in Karur district. He had gone to watch the jallikattu event, organized in connection with celebrations for chief minister M K Stalin's birthday, at the Jamal Mohamed College ground in Kajamalai, Trichy.

Pradeep was reportedly gored in the chest by an exiting bull near the bull collection point of the arena. He was immediately taken to Trichy govt hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. The KK Nagar police have registered a case.
Earlier, municipal administration minister K.N. Nehru flagged off the event. A total of 690 bulls were released into the specially prepared arena, and around 500 tamers took part in multiple batches. Around 4,000 people witnessed the event.
As many as 15 tamers, 32 bull owners, and 12 others were injured. Of these, 47 people sustained minor injuries and received treatment from the on-site medical team, while 12 others with moderate injuries were referred to Trichy govt hospital.
Security arrangements for the event came under serious scrutiny as multiple spectators repeatedly breached the barricades and entered the arena throughout the day.
