THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As part of the ongoing anti-narcotic special drive, the excise enforcement and anti-narcotic special squad arrested a youth with 11.62 grams of MDMA worth Rs 1 lakh on Tuesday.
Ananthu Mohan (23) alias Chanthu, a Venganoor native, was arrested while travelling in a car with the MDMA at Peringamala. The car has been seized. Officers said the accused has been in this business for over six months.
He bought the MDMA from Bengaluru for sale at Peringamala.
Excise officers said the accused was a hotel management student but has not completed the course. Six months ago, he took the drug from a friend and soon became its addict. Gradually, he considered it a source of earning money and started buying it from Bengaluru for sale here.
The squad was conducting inspections on a tip-off received from the preventive officer K Shaju of excise intelligence and investigation bureau. The accused has been remanded in judicial custody after being produced in court. Since it is a commercial quantity, getting bail from the court is difficult.
