T'puram: Pettah police on Tuesday arrested two men for allegedly assaulting and stabbing a youth following prior enmity. Police said the incident occurred on Sunday night.
The accused were identified as Sreelal, 26, and Shambhu Sharma, 29, both natives of Ayiroor. According to police, the duo forcibly entered a premises in Ayiroor around 8pm and attacked a youth from Mangattukonam. The attackers allegedly hurled abuses before physically assaulting the victim and stabbing him with a knife, causing serious injuries.
During the incident, another youth who intervened to stop the assault was also attacked by the accused and sustained injuries. Both injured individuals were rushed to hospital, and their condition is reported to be stable.
Police said the attack was the result of a previous dispute between the accused and the victim. A case was registered, and the accused were taken into custody.
Police added that efforts are under way to trace another suspect believed to be involved in the attack. The arrested men were produced before a local court and remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
Pettah police intensified the investigation and are gathering further evidence, including witness statements, to establish the sequence of events.
