Technopark added over 21 lakh sq ft since 2021-22
T'puram: State's flagship IT hub, Technopark, has added 21,12,473sq ft of built-up space since 2021-22, according to official data presented in the assembly, continuing a gradual expansion with the target set for 2035.As per the data presented by chief minister, who is also in charge of IT dept, the figures indicate that the growth at Technopark has been incremental rather than abrupt. Total IT built-up area increased from 60 lakh sq ft at the beginning of 2011-12 to 85.10 lakh square feet sq ft by the end of 2015-16. This was followed by a further rise to 106.07 lakh sq ft by the close of 2020-21. The addition of over 21 lakh sq ft in the subsequent period suggests a continuation of this trend, though the pace of expansion remains within the same broad trajectory seen in earlier years. Officials project that, with the completion of all phases - from Phase I to Phase IV - Technopark could eventually reach around 40 million square feet by 2035. The projections also estimate the potential for up to four lakh direct employment opportunities. However, these figures remain contingent on phased execution, investment flows and occupancy demand over the next decade. While the primary focus remains on Technopark, parallel developments are being pursued in other IT parks in the state. At Infopark in Kochi, total IT space has seen only a marginal increase in recent years - from 92 lakh sq ft in 2020-21 to 92.62 lakh sq ft in 2024-25. Plans are under consideration to add an additional 15 lakh sq ft within the next year. Similarly, at Cyberpark in Kozhikode, expansion remains at a relatively early stage. The park currently has around 3 lakh sq ft of built-up space. A second IT building, with a proposed area of four lakh sq ft, is being processed under NABARD's NIDA scheme. The comparative data across IT parks suggests that while all three hubs have recorded increases in built-up space over time, Technopark continues to account for a significant share of the state's IT infrastructure expansion.
