Thiruvananthapuram: As part of giving back its bit to mother Earth, the city corporation planted 20 saplings in the premises of the Greenfield Stadium, Kariyavattom, where the T 20 match will be held on Tuesday.
The corporation which is planning the T 20 match as a zero-waste event, has envisaged ‘T 20 for Tree 20’, a campaign to plant 20 saplings. The campaign, conducted with the support of techies’ group Prakruti, was envisaged to do a bit to compensate for the paper used for tickets, campaign materials, paper plates etc.
Mayor V K Prasanth inaugurated the programme by planting a sapling.
Development standing committee chairman Vanchiyoor P Babu, town planning standing committee chairman R Satishkumar, Literacy mission director P S Sreekala, youth welfare board chairman P Biju, journalist M G Radhakrishnan, actor Premkumar, cyclist Rajani, Kerala Cricket Association president Johnson, councilor Bindhu, playback singer Thushar, Prakruti office bearers Biju Sundaran, Bipin, Shagin and Linu, members of culture club of Technopark - Natana - Arun Sasi, Riyas, Divas, sponsor Le Arabia group manager Manoj and health supervisor Ramesh Kumar planted saplings.
The city corporation has taken steps to ensure that the programme is conducted as a zero-waste event. Bins have been placed in the washrooms to let viewers segregate waste and deposit in separate ones.
Mayor requested all viewers of T 20 to help corporation execute the project as a zero-waste event and thereby set a model to such events in future.
