Thiruvananthapuram: The police team investigating the rape of a civil service aspirant at Kazhakkoottam is still clueless about the whereabouts of the accused. A team of police is camped in
Tamil Nadu after the accused's last tower location was shown at Nagercoil.
The woman was subjected to rape after the accused forcefully made her drink alcohol at her apartment on last Tuesday.
"The accused tried to settle the case through a common friend on Wednesday morning. However, the woman was determined to move legally against him. It was the common friend who suggested that he should escape after it was almost certain that she was going to file charges against him," police said. "After he learned through the media that he was being searched by police, he escaped to Tamil Nadu via Kaliyakkavilai, Nagercoil, and Kanyakumari. His last tower location was shown at Nagercoil on Thursday morning," said police.
From questioning his friends, whom the accused contacted before he switched off his phone, the probe team learned that the accused had no concrete escape plan but simply moved to Tamil Nadu in a taxi, said police.
As soon as she approached police, the woman was subjected to a medical examination, and the crime scene was examined by forensic experts.
Police identified the accused as Deepu, 30, a Kowdiar native. The accused went to her apartment claiming that her boyfriend was having other relationships and he had evidence to back up his accusations.
