Thiruvananthapuram: When ‘Kutty President’ Nanma S said that adults seldom find time to listen to children, in her speech at the state-level Children’s Day celebrations held at Nishagandhi on Monday, minister Veena George found an immediate solution.
Twice a month, the children would get an opportunity to speak to the minister. Their difficulties, complaints and ideas can be shared directly with her once in 15 days.
The speeches by student leaders highlighted major events and developments in today’s society.
They mainly addressed the need to develop scientific awareness and logical thinking by eradicating drug consumption, superstition and immorality.
District child welfare committee secretary K Jayapal read the chief minister’s message to children while minister Veena George released this year’s Children’s Day stamp based on the message against drug abuse. Akshay B A of Balaramapuram Nazareth Home School, who designed the stamp, and Ashwin Krishna of Kannur Andaloor Senior School, who selected the subject, were felicitated by the minister at the event.
Children’s Prime Minister Minna Ranjith of Kowdiar Christ Nagar School, President Nanma S of Holy Angels CBSE School, Vanjiyoor, Speaker Uma S of Cotton Hill Government Girls HSS, Parvanendu P S of Shishuvihar UP School who welcomed the gathering, Carmel Girls HSS student Gautami S who gave the vote of thanks, Devanandan who sang the welcome song and their coach Pallipuram Jayakumar were also honoured by the minister.
Students of Vellayani Little Flower Convent School who performed the best in the Children’s Day Rally were also felicitated.
