No Vattiyoorkavu assembly seat bid, says BJP’s K Surendran
T'puram: Former BJP state chief K Surendran dismissed reports by a section of the media claiming that he had staked a claim for Vattiyoorkavu assembly seat, especially after the saffron party maintained a clear lead in the constituency in the recently-concluded local body elections. Surendran said a section of the media was actively generating stories about his interests in the upcoming assembly election."First it was Thrissur, then Palakkad and now Vattiyoorkavu. I did not tell anybody about my interest in contesting in any assembly seat. I contested in several elections and I lost between cup and lip. Wherever I contested, it was based on the decision taken by the party. I request such groups not to drag me into unnecessary controversies. Let there be no confusion over such matters," he said.

Surendran reacted amid rumours that BJP state chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar planned to offer Vattiyoorkavu seat to former DGP R Sreelekha, who won from Sasthamangalam ward in the local body elections. However, rumours later suggested that the plan went off track after Surendran expressed interest in contesting from Vattiyoorkavu. Confusion followed when Sreelekha told the media that she was not ready to contest from Vattiyoorkavu.
