Man killed by wife’s partner

Thiruvananthapuram: A 41-year-old man was stabbed to death by his wife's live-in partner at Puthoor near Kottarakkara in Kollam late Friday night. The victim, Shyamsundar of Kuzhakkad, was found dead inside his house on Saturday morning. The accused, Dhanesh, 47, has been arrested and remanded in judicial custody.

According to Puthoor police, the murder stemmed from a long-standing dispute between the two men. For the past four years, Shyam's wife and child had been living with Dhanesh, leading to frequent quarrels. Around 11.30pm. on Friday, Dhanesh visited Shyam's house and an altercation broke out. Though he left the scene initially, he allegedly returned soon after with a knife. Forcing his way inside, he stabbed Shyam in the neck during a scuffle.


Neighbours said Shyam managed to make a distress call, telling them he had been stabbed. But by the time they reached his home, he collapsed and died before medical help could arrive. His body was shifted to Kollam Taluk Hospital, where a post-mortem was conducted on Saturday.

A forensic team and crime scene experts examined the house and collected evidence. Investigators scrutinised call records and questioned local residents who witnessed the earlier quarrells. Police said Dhanesh confessed to the crime during interrogation.

He was produced before the magistrate on Saturday evening and remanded for 14 days. Police said further investigation will focus on whether the killing was premeditated or the outcome of sudden provocation.
