Kudumbashree to control stray dog menace, pilot project set for launch in Ernakulum on Oct 5
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the wake of increasing incidence of
Selected women of neighbourhood groups of Kudumbashree will be trained and the successfully trained members will work in various blocks with the support of the management unit of each block. “Kudumbashree’s intervention comes in the wake of the increasing street dog menace reported in the state. The trained women groups in 50 blocks of the state can also choose this as a source of income,” Kudumbashree officials said.
The responsibility of each of these 50 blocks of Kudumbashree will be to identify and catch stray dogs in the panchayats of each block, According to the legal norms, the dogs will be taken to the veterinary hospital, vaccinated and sterilised as per ABC program and offered after care at the kennels put up.
In the pilot phase, the program will be launched in three blocks of Ernakulum including Parakadavu, Angamali and

The selected members will be offered expert training for three days under the auspices of Kudumbashree. On completion of the training, the members will be offered certificates, uniforms and identity cards.
For post-operative care of the dogs after the ABC program, the trained members will ensure the care and then the dogs will be released by them at the appropriate places. For the effective implementation of the program, Kudumbashree has ensured the coordination of Local Self Government organisations and
