Irregularities in weight and measure: LMD register 95 case

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Legal metrology department registered cases against 95 merchants in the state for various irregularities in weight and measures while sales of commodities. Around 200 shops were inspected by the LMD wing and the team found out violations related to levying more price than actual rate, correcting price on packets, selling commodities by changing weight and so on.

Surprise inspections were conducted by LMD following wide spread complaints that many merchants have resorted to overpricing in the wake of GST.

Minister for food and public distribution had given special instruction to LMD to conduct the drive, said LMD controller R Reenagopal. The raids were led by deputy controllers Ledson Raj, R Rammohan and I Ramaprasad Shetty.
