KOCHI: Well-known Malayalam director KG George who was arrested and later let off on bail Thursday night, said onFriday that he was being implicated in false cases, allegedly by some financiersto extract nearly Rs 8 lakh from him after a film he directed four years agoflopped.
George told a press conference here that he was beingallegedly harassed by Francis Cleetus, an Abu Dhabi-based businessman, who hadinvested in , aMammooty-Kushboo starrer, which bombed at the box office four yearsago.
The allegation that the arrest was made in a cheque case wasfabricated, he claimed.
Since the last four years, Cleetus and someothers were threatening him and his family, George, who is also the chairman ofthe Malayalam Artistes and Cine Technicians Association (Macta), said.
A harassment case, filed by George, is pending against Cleetus in aThiruvananthapuram court.
George claimed the Thiruvananthapuram chiefjudicial magistrate court''s summons, issued on April 4, had not been received byhim. After he failed to respond to the summons, the court had issued arrestwarrant and taken him into custody Thursday night. He was later granted bail.
George said the fabricated case was only to tarnish his image andthat he was planning to launch legal proceedings.
Stating thatMalayalam film industry was going through a very bad phase, he asked "how will afilm''s director be responsible, if the film fails".
