Thiruvananthapuram: The Parassala police on the late hours of Friday recorded the arrest of a history-sheeter who was found roaming suspiciously near a crematorium at Nedungode near Kaliyikkavila. He was arrested with 100 grams of ganja and a stolen motorcycle number plate. The accused was later identified as
Baiju alias Parakkumthalika Baiju, 39 of Uriyakode near Poovachal.
He was presented before court on Saturday and subsequently remanded in judicial custody.
According to Parassala sub-inspector Sreelal Chandrasekharan, the accused has a track record of crimes and he had made it to the headlines around two years ago for aiding one of the most notorious goons in the state R Biju alias Ernakulam Biju escape from police custody after leaving Neyyattinkara court. “It was the accused who drove the bike and picked off Ernakulam Biju before escaping. We were informed about him roaming suspiciously and caught him by around 8:30pm. After we nabbed him, we recovered a small quantity of ganja and a number plate. On further questioning, he confessed that the number plate belongs to a stolen motorcycle that he had robbed from Thampanoor police station limits. We have recovered the motorcycle as well,” the SI said.
The SI also said there are several pending cases against the accused and police are probing about his involvement in other possible cases of robbery.
