THRISSUR: Kerala Agricultural University has developed two high yielding varieties of cashew, ''Raghav'' and ''Damodar''.
Former Agriculture minister V V Raghavan, MP, released on Monday the new varieties which have been developed at Madakkathara cashew research station of the university.
He said indiscriminate use of pesticides and fungicides had caused irreparable damage to environment and human habitat.
Raghavan said Vietnam and Indonesia had emerged as competitors in cashew export in the international market.
''Raghav'' was developed by crossing between ALGD-1-1 and K-30-1 and ''Damodar'' was obtained by crossing between Anakkayam-1 and H 3-13, cashew cultivars.
