T'puram: The state govt has warned people to be cautious of the severe heat and avoid exposure to direct sunlight between 11am and 3pm. Health minister Veena George said that heat stroke clinics in hospitals have been established."Special heat stroke clinics have been established in all major hospitals to address health problems caused by heat. A heat health action plan has been devised for this purpose. These clinics ensure the availability of cooling equipment and medicines. Monitoring of heat-related diseases has been intensified," Veena said. "Since high ultraviolet indices are recorded from 11am to 3pm, avoid direct exposure to sunlight as much as possible. Continuous exposure can lead to sunstroke or heat exhaustion. Self-protection is crucial. Everyone should be careful to avoid direct sunlight from 11am to 3pm," she said. The minister also said that special attention should be given to children, elderly, pregnant women and those with serious illnesses. "Those working under direct sunlight should adjust their work hours to mornings and evenings, and medical attention should be sought immediately if any health issues arise," she added. The advisory urged people to drink plenty of water even if not thirsty as dehydration can occur due to excessive water loss from the body.
