17-year-old found hanging at house; police suspect suicide

Thiruvananthapuram: A 17-year-old girl was found dead at her rented residence in Palode on Sunday morning. Police suspect it to be a case of suicide. The deceased was a Class XII student.According to police, after she failed to come out of her room in the morning, her family forced open the door and found her hanging from the bedroom window using a shawl around 8.45am. They immediately alerted the police.
Palode police, along with forensic experts, conducted inquest proceedings at the scene. "The exact reason for the incident is yet to be ascertained. A detailed investigation is under way," a police officer said. The body was shifted to the medical college hospital for postmortem examination and will be handed over to the family later for last rites at their residence in Kakkottukunnu. Her mother and younger sister were present at the rented house at the time of the incident. Locals said the family has been living in the rented house for some time, and they moved there for their children's education. Police have registered a case of unnatural death under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and further investigation is in progress.
