TMC strikes in Diva yet again
For the second time in less than a week the anti encroachment department of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has gone on the offensive against upcoming illegal buildings in the rural belt of Diva and its surrounding villages. The action left several multi storeyed buildings damaged at the end of the day.
Dr BG Pawar, the Deputy Municipal Commissioner (DMC) in charge of the civic department informed Thane Plus that a drive was taken by his department in Dativli village on Tuesday.

Around 30 civic officers and as many casual labourers accompanied by three poculan machines as well as two bull dozers took on the illegal constructions in the heart of Dativli village some distance from Diva.
As usual the drive started at around 1 PM due to lack of police bandobast. The DMC said that he and his men along with machines waited inside the compound of the Mumbra fire brigade from 10 AM onwards for the police bandobast but the cops turned up only at around 12 PM and then only the TMC squad left for the village.
Since the drive started late it ended late as well. The officials could achieve a major part of their day's aim only by around 7.30 PM before packing off for the civic headquarters for the day.
"We removed 16 commercial galas and damaged four under construction buildings near the dam in the village", the DMC said. He informed that two of the buildings were ground plus one storey structures while the third one was ground plus three storey building. The fourth one was a ground plus four storey structure. All the four structures were in various stages of construction and were unoccupied
During the action the civic bull dozers broke the entire brickwork of the 16 unoccupied commercial galas. The two ground plus one storey structures were totally damaged by three poculan machines. The heavy duty bull dozer machines also damaged more than half of the remaining two multi storey structures and action ended at 7.30 PM due to poor light.

Even though the drive was called off for the day the civic administration has decided to return to the rural belt within the next few days to take on the unoccupied illegal structures as well as those that have come up recently. The TMC squad is looking up to the city police to provide its men for the drive in the near future as well.
It may be noted that only last Wednesday the civic men and machines had targeted recently erected illegal buildings just behind BR Nagar area of Diva. Four of the structures were totally damaged while a fifth one was partially demolished during the drive. The officials also damaged a plinth and a ground plus three storey building in Kausa while on way to the demolition site at Diva.
