Thane: City based 28-year-old Sahej Mantri is one social entrepreneur who has given up his well-paying media career to make the city a cleaner place.
Mantri, who left his career in journalism and started working with an NGO in the sanitation and development sector in Odisha, was forced to come to the city after a bout of malaria. On coming home, Mantri witnessed the growing issues of sanitation in the lake city, and decided to put an end to this problem.
"I spent some time in the city and realised that we don't have any restrooms in places that require them. Women travelling for long distances have to rush to restaurants. Open defecation and urination is still prevalent across the city," said Mantri.
After a year of planning, the social entrepreneur with the help of a South Mumbai architect Rohan Chavan (30) sought the TMC's support and created two eco-friendly modular toilet and restroom prototypes at Teen Hath Naka and Mulund Check point, both of which will be inaugurated today by the city mayor.
